Alliance Opposing SB 121, which would hurt business in elections

Senator Evans has introduced SB 121 that requires publicly-held corporations to annually issue reports on past political expenditures to California shareholders, notify shareholders within 24 hours prior to contributions made during their fiscal year and create a civil cause of action for shareholders against corporations that fail to issue the report and meet the notification requirements.

SB 121 is a reintroduction of legislation last year (SB 982). Last year the bill was pulled from the Senate Banking Committee before it was heard. Given the changes in the committee membership it may be more difficult for that to happen again.

Alliance Supports Uniform Laws On Reusable Bags

Recognizing the significant impact on plastic bags on our region’s environment, the Chamber Alliance board has voted to adopt a position calling for uniformity in laws regulating reusable bags. Hundreds of municipalities have adopted local ordinances on reusable bags which creates confusion and compliance challenges for grocers and other impacted retailers. The Alliance will be reviewing AB 158, which seeks to implement a statewide reusable bag policy.

The Chamber Alliance recently joined a chorus of business groups expressing concerns about draft rules from CA Environmental Protection Agency that seek to address health issues in low income communities. The central theme of this coalition letter is that the draft rule’s methodology used to evaluate cumulative impact to communities instead muddies the distinction between health outcomes driven by socio-economic status and those caused by chemical pollution exposure.”

"Alliance Endorses Central County Coalition "Good Neighbor Special Events Ordinance.

The Chamber Alliance Board has voted to support this ordinance as a replacement for the existing Ordinance that is both flawed, confusing, complex and, in some instances, unconstitutional. In addition, this current ordinance does not address "impacts" on neighbors, which is the essence and foundation of The Good Neighbor Ordinance. The Santa Barbara Planning Commission has voted to send this to the Board Of Supervisors for approval and study by the Planning Department."

Funeral arrangements announced for Michael Lavenant

The Chamber Alliance mourns the passing last week of its board member and past chair of the Camarillo Chamber, Michael Lavenant, who passed away unexpectedly in his home Wednesday morning at age of 42. He leaves his beloved wife and three children. Funeral is scheduled for:
